Grimm Krupa Responds to News of Future Penn State Branch Campus Closures

SMITHFIELD – After a message from Penn State University’s president announcing future closures to some Penn State Commonwealth campuses, Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) issued the following statement:

“As a proud Penn State graduate, I know firsthand how important Penn State Fayette is to our community. I started my first college classes at Fayette Campus at just 15 years old, thanks to funding from the Eberly Foundation. That opportunity set me on a path that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Now, my own daughter is in her third year of nursing at this very campus, preparing for a career that our region desperately needs.

“The idea of closing this campus is unacceptable. Penn State is our land-grant university, founded to provide education to all Pennsylvanians, not just those near State College or in wealthier, urban areas. Fayette Campus is a lifeline for students who can’t afford to uproot their lives to get a degree. Without it, too many of them will have no path forward.

“Beyond the students, this campus is home to exceptional faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing high-quality education and support. It also plays a vital role in our local economy, supporting businesses and strengthening our workforce, especially in critical fields like health care.

“What makes this situation even more frustrating is the lack of transparency from Penn State leadership. At recent budget hearings, the chancellor was vague and evasive when asked about the university’s plans. The people of this community deserve straight answers, not bureaucratic dodging.

“Penn State cannot turn its back on rural Pennsylvania. I am calling on university leadership to uphold their responsibility as a land-grant institution and keep Fayette Campus open. I urge my colleagues in the Legislature and the people of this community to join me in demanding accountability and fighting for the future of our students.”
